Review: Missing Your Smile – Jerry Eicher

Susan Hostetler has been jilted by her longtime boyfriend Thomas. He had the audacity to sneak around with her best friend! She had planned to marry him and is so upset she leaves all that is dear to her and flees from Indiana all the way to New Jersey. Susan feels like a fish out of water, but as she begins to work at a bakery, she starts to test the English waters. She has a goal, obtain a driver’s license and pass her G.E.D. If she is going to live in the English world, she may as well try it all. Having one’s heart broke can make a person want to change a little and being an Amish girl, doing what Susan is doing is certainly a change, to say the least!

Susan begins filling her days working at the bakery, spending time with her boss Laura, and taking driving lessons from Laura’s son Robby. Then one day a woman comes to the bakery seeking Susan’s help. She wants Susan to help her find someone in the Amish community to adopt her unborn child. Susan is stunned, but agrees to help the poor woman knowing full well that her help will bring her back into the Amish world. How can she refuse a person in need? Susan loves her Amish roots but can she return home and face Thomas? What will the community think of her bringing a pregnant unwed English girl home…..

Missing Your Smile is a beautifully written story that is full of heart and soul. It’s a book that will leave you ready and willing to follow the characters into book two. As I was reading, I started wondering why on earth I never read any of Jerry’s books before. This being my first book by him, I am thoroughly impressed, and I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us in the future. Fortunately, as I turned the last page I already have Following Your Heart at my fingertips!

This book was provided to me from author Jerry Eicher for review.
