Farm Fresh Amish Produce

Pine-Lans-Produce

One thing you’ll notice when you visit Amish Country, Ohio is that farm fresh produce isn’t hard to find. I try to plan my weekly menu around whatever is in season. Throw together some fresh green beans, smoked sausage, taters, a little chicken broth, and let it cook all day in your crock pot. You won’t be sorry! Top it off with a side of ripe juicy tomatoes and well, you will be having everyone come back for seconds. This past Saturday I went to an Amish owned farm stand called Pine Lane Produce to pick up a cantaloupe. We eat a TON of watermelon and cantaloupe during the summer for dessert or snacks. They had corn, green beans, tomatoes, squash, and other homegrown fruits and vegetables, all priced very reasonable. Zucchini three for a dollar? Yes, please!

My advice for when you are visiting here is to hop in your car and drive until you see signs offering fresh produce straight from the farm. One time, I pulled over at a busy intersection to buy blackberries from an Amish man who set up shop right off the side of the road. They made the BEST blackberry pie and were worth the trouble of having no parking. You never know what you’ll find for sale. Eggs, baked goods, soap, baskets, you name it, you may happen upon it.

A few popular places to visit (easy to find) and personally three of my favorite places are: Sweetwater Farm in Sugarcreek, Hillcrest Orchard in Walnut Creek, and Hershberger’s Farm and Bakery. Hershberger’s is probably the most known to readers because it’s a tourist must see especially since you can hang out with adorable little animals. Lots of goats. Need I say more? I’ll highlight each place I mentioned in separate posts soon!

How about you? Do you shop at local produce stands?

  1. Yes Michelle I do like to visit road side stands for fruits and vegetables. I have a few close to me that are easy to get to.
Speaking of fruits you wouldn’t happen to have a good recipe for peach pie would you?

    1. Hi Shirley! I actually just made a peach pie and I am going to share the recipe Friday. Super easy to make and so good!
