The Memory Jar (Seven Brides for Seven Bachelors) By Tricia Goyer

If you lost someone so close to you that just thinking about them makes breathing painful, how would you cope? Would you keep your memories close to your heart, sealed away in a jar, never sharing them? Well, this is exactly what Sarah Shelter has been doing. Storing away her memories of her very best friend Patty, who tragically drowned. Sarah may be still grieving hard but her heart does soar when she is baking her delicious cupcakes. Creating beautiful cupcakes is her passion, which brings some joy and happiness to our sad heroine. At her age she would have thought she and Patty would each be married and starting families. Instead, she has the painful reminder that she could not save her best friend. Every year bachelors from all over come to Montana for hunting and possibly to find a bride. Jathan Schrock has traveled from Ohio to sort through his life. It will do his soul some good….hunting, freedom and time to figure out where he his life is going. When he lays eyes on Sarah he knows she is something special but senses a deep sadness about her. A grieving young woman and a man trying to find his way are brought together by a hiking trip gone awry…..each one will be deeply impacted by the other and their lives will never be the same…..

The Memory Jar is such an endearing, heartfelt story. How one chooses to deal with grief can either make or break them.  Sarah holds the memories of Patty so closely guarded that she can’t see the joy that it will bring her to talk freely about their friendship. To keep one’s grief suppressed can be stifling and Tricia writes the emotional turmoil that Sarah is experiencing beautifully. Yes…I cried!  I love the idea of a memory jar. This would be a great project to help someone express their love for a lost loved one. Trinkets and little objects that remind them of special times….a perfect way to keep the memories close by. Waiting for you to open them and set them free….
