Review: A Life of Joy

A Life of Joy by Amy Clipston is book number four in her Kauffman Amish Bakery series. It follows Lindsay Bedford who must make a choice to join the Amish church or return to her English roots. Her parents were killed four years ago, and Lindsay has been living with her aunt and uncle who are Amish. Jessica her older sister never adjusted to the Amish way of life, so she has been living with close family friends in Virginia. Jessica constantly hounds Lindsay to seek higher education and make something of herself.  Lindsay loves her life. She has great friends and she adores working at The Kauffman Bakery. She’s even caught the attention of Matthew Glick, a boy who she can easily confide in. Still there’s something holding her back from joining the church. Jessica’s nagging doesn’t help matters either. When the family friend that Jessica is staying with is injured and needs help, Lindsay makes a decision to step back into the English world to care for her. She is both scared and excited about leaving the place she has called home the last four years to go back to the place she was born. Lindsay is on a journey of self-discovery. Hovering between two worlds, one in which she has come to love and one world that needs some further exploration. Joining the Amish church is not to be taken lightly. It may be an easy choice for someone born Amish but Lindsay was not. You can understand her apprehension with this path in life. What will this young girl with a heart of gold choose? Which world will fulfill her with a life of joy? Lindsay is such a sweet and likeable character who you will instantly love. I loved reading this book and I am anxiously awaiting the next installment! There are some really neat Amish recipes added in which I found to be a great addition. I might even try a recipe or two!
