Whenever I have the opportunity to read one of Shelley Shepard Gray’s novels, I know I’m in for a good story. So when The Promise of Palm Grove (Book One in her Amish Brides of Pinecraft series) arrived at my doorstep, I couldn’t wait to get started. I knew I was in for a treat as Shelley Shepard Gray took this reader to the sunny Florida locale of Pinecraft…time for me to put on my flip-flops!
The Promise of Palm Grove tells the story of Leona Weaver, a young Amish woman who has traveled from Ohio to Florida with two of her closest friends for one last hurrah before marrying her fiancé, Edmund. Leona has already been having second thoughts about overbearing Edmund before she ever meets Zack – a Pinecraft local…and the antithesis of Edmund. What will Leona do? How will she handle this unusual situation when it comes to her two close friends…and one of them is Edmund’s sister! Will she leave a trail of broken hearts along the way?
The Promise of Palm Grove was a good read and it was nice to read of the Amish in Pinecraft. I enjoyed how the main storyline was crafted, but I found the subplots lacked continuity, as they were not fleshed out thoroughly and frequently seemed to be thrown in to the middle of the main story. I found it distracting. I was given this book in exchange for my honest review. Overall, I found The Promise of Palm Grove to be a good, easy read. I hope to learn more of the other character (including Leona’s) in subsequent novels in this series. It was nice to escape to Pinecraft, even if only by reading about it!

Susan Ferrell and her husband make their home in the Atlanta Metro area. Although Susan struggles with chronic migraine headaches, she stays very busy as a stay-at-home mom to one very precocious little girl. While catching her breath, she feeds her Amishaholic tendencies by reading vast amounts of Amish literature!

That’s what I like to see. An Amish romance from Pinecraft. Especially during these fridget winter temperatures.
