Leslie Gould is the co-author, with Mindy Starns Clark, of the #1 bestselling The Amish Midwife and The Amish Nanny. She is also the author of numerous novels, includingGarden of Dreams, Beyond the Blue (winner of the Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice for Best Inspirational Novel, 2006), and Scrap Everything. She holds an MFA in creative writing from Portland State University and has taught fiction writing at Multnomah University as an adjunct professor. My Review

Over the course of a long lazy weekend I immersed myself in reading Courting Cate by Leslie Gould. I literally could not put this book down. You know what I am talking about…like when you love a book so much you hide it under the table during dinner trying to sneak in a few pages. Yeah, it’s that good! I was enthralled by Cate Miller’s story. Cate has built a reputation for being standoffish and uptight. A bit salty if you will. She is actually using her so called meanness as a defense mechanism. Deep down she is just a girl wanting to fit in and find someone to spend her life with. She puts up walls and when she feels backed into a corner she lashes out, which is frequently! Halfway through the book I began to wonder what was going to happen and I almost peeked at the last page! I love when a book does that….gives you a little anxiety and keeps you turning the pages faster. Each and every character has a place in the story. They are not just scene fillers but rather important role players in Cate’s journey to find love and self-acceptance. Without giving any spoilers my favorite part of the book is when Cate finds herself living on an Old Order Amish farm. She may be Amish but she is a little taken aback by the outhouse. I daresay Cate Miller just may well be one of my all-time favorite characters….make sure to keep that quiet so all the others don’t hear!
