How Does Your Garden Grow?

kathyI say this every spring—I can’t wait to start gardening. The catch is that I’m not a gardener. My husband has a very green thumb, but my gardening skills aren’t much pretty nonexistent. I do enjoy a lovely garden, and my favorite garden vegetables are tomatoes. Nothing beats a sweet tomato freshly picked and still warm from the sun.

In stark contrast to myself, the lead character in my novella Flowers for Rachael (in An Amish Garden) is an excellent gardener. She also has a lot at stake in her garden—she depends on it to help bring in money so she can take care of her grandfather. Rachael is so focused on taking care of her garden and her grandfather that she loses sight of what’s really important—allowing God to provide. With the help of her neighbor Gideon, she learns that lesson.

What about you? Do you sometimes let earthly worries steal your focus from what’s important? And what about gardening? Do you have a favorite vegetable or flower you like to grow?

Comment below for a chance to win a copy of An Amish Garden, with novellas by me, Beth Wiseman, Vannetta Chapman, and Tricia Goyer.

Blessings,
Kathleen

  10. It is hard not to let the worries of life steal my focus. Each time I feel overwhelmed I try to turn it over to God. Sometimes that is many times a day or sometimes occasionally. We do have a garden. My husband is the gardener of the family. I try to keep up with the harvest. I think we both would benefit from reading The Amish Garden. I love it when we have fresh tomatoes in the garden. We have been enjoying asparagus and onions and collard greens and radishes so far. I have even picked 2 small strawberries. Tomatoes are my favorite. Nothing beats a tomato fresh off the vine.

As I am getting older, I can change my thoughts
and take away some of my anxiety! I love to grow
native plants in our garden or ones that are drought
    resistant….Different colors of Coneflowers, Russian
Sage, Miniature Hollyhocks, are just a few of
    my favorites!
    Many thanks, Cindi

  35. We had a huge garden when I was a little girl, I helped plant, hoe and weed…and I think that is where I got my love of gardening. When I got married my husband and I also did a large garden, now that we are older we do a much smaller garden, just enough so we can share with family and friends. I don’t do canning like I use to do, but I am thankful for being able to put in a small garden. This book sounds very good and I thank you for the opportunity at a chance to win it.

  36. I love gardening, vegetable and flowers, my health is not been the best the past couple years. But hopefully with the strength from GOD he will help me garden after all this is his Garden and World. I love your books, I have read books of all these Authors.
