The Christmas Secret: Review by Susan Scott Ferrell

The Christmas Secret – Not Much to Keep Quiet About

The Christmas SecretWanda Brunstetter takes a break from her Amish writings to give readers this Christmas novella. Set in 1880, Allenstown, Pennsylvania, The Christmas Secret tells the love story of Elizabeth Canning and David Stinner. The two are set to marry on Christmas Eve and live happily ever after in Elizabeth’s family’s old log cabin. But Elizabeth discovers a secret so awful – so devastating – she has no choice but to flee from David and her town. What will Elizabeth do on Christmas Eve now?

I was given The Christmas Secret in exchange for my honest review. The novella is an interesting read with a couple of unanticipated twists and turns, but for the most part, the plot is very predictable. I would not necessarily categorize this as a “for the holidays” romance. Additionally, I felt that the story could have been a bit more developed, and perhaps some of the secondary characters (like Helen and Howard) could have been fleshed out further to create more depth. Regardless, this is a good little story to settle down with for a long afternoon…enjoy!

Anticipating a Christmas Eve wedding with Elizabeth, David Stinner is confused by her letter and desperate to find her. Can David root out the truth about the past and bring back his bride? Or is the truth destined to bring an ultimate end to their romance?
