When Mercy Rains – Pour It On– Review by Susan Scott Ferrell
I’m still new to Kim Vogel Sawyer’s writings, but so far I like what I see! I just finished reading When Mercy Rains (first in The Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy) and I feel full – like I just completed a very satisfying meal. When Mercy Rains is a very compelling read.
When Mercy Rains tells the story of Suzanne Zimmerman, who left her Old Order Mennonite community by command of her overly terse mother. The plan is for her to return…after she gives birth to her out-of-wedlock baby. But Suzanne chooses a different path and raises a daughter on her own, choosing to become a nurse. When she gets a surprise letter from her brother, asking that she return to help care for her injured mother, Suzanne’s worlds collide as she is forced to face her past – the family she hasn’t see in 20 years…and her beau that helped start this journey all those years ago.
I was given this book in exchange for my honest review and I can honestly say that I found it to be a captivating read. Kim Vogel Sawyer wove the tapestry of characters together beautifully. I truly felt the struggle that both Suzanne and other characters faced throughout the novel. Sawyer carefully balanced the real-life struggle of dealing with the sins of the past, forgiveness, and the inevitable mercy that we all must learn to accept. When Mercy Rains is a must-read and I cannot wait to dig into Book Two of the series – When Grace Sings!
