Rising Darkness Review by Susan Scott Ferrell

Rising Darkness – Sleepless in Sanctuary

Rising DarknessI did a little happy dance when I received my coy of Nancy Mehl’s latest installment in her Finding Sanctuary series, Rising Darkness. Why? Because I know I am in for a good story – one that will have me reading long into the night – sleepless, if you will, while reading about Sanctuary. Did Mehl deliver like she has in her previous novels? Oh yeahhhh.

Rising Darkness follows Sophie Wittenbauer, former Mennonite. She left her community years ago, under a veil of shame, bitterness, and remorse. She’s done all she can to erase those years and now works for a newspaper. When she comes across a person from her past, she find he is in prison and he’s telling a far different story than what the outside world has heard. His tip leads this inquisitive journalist to Sanctuary, Missouri.

Of course, she would rather be in just about any other town than one that Mennonite beliefs. But for a good story, it might be worth it. But just how long can she keep her own secrets of the past hidden? Time is running out!

I was given Rising Darkness in exchange for my honest review. It is possible to read this as a stand-alone, but characters from previous novels in the series are mentioned (so it’s time to get caught up!) Nancy Mehl has an incredible gift of weaving a story full of suspense. Prepare yourself: Once you start reading Rising Darkness, you won’t want to put it down. You will find yourself (contentedly) Sleepless in Sanctuary! Masterful Mehl strikes again!

Susan Ferrell and her husband make their home in the Atlanta Metro area. Although Susan struggles with chronic migraine headaches, she stays very busy as a stay-at-home mom to one very precocious little girl. While catching her breath, she feeds her Amishaholic tendencies by reading vast amounts of Amish literature!
