Deadly Echoes – A Gripping Read – Review by Susan Scott Ferrell

Deadly EchoesOften times when an author has had a hit with his or her first book in a series, there is a bit of a letdown when the subsequent novels release.  They just are not up-to-par with the first and the reader is found wanting more.  When I received Deadly Echoes, Nancy Mehl’s second novel in her Finding Sanctuary series, I thought it would be hard for her to keep pace after such a wonderful kickoff with Book One, Gathering Shadows.  I need not have worried.  Mehl delivers yet another smash hit with Deadly Echoes.  One warning though: be prepared to lose some sleep.

Deadly Echoes tells the story of Sarah Miller, the school teacher of the small town of Sanctuary.  She is happy and content with her small-town life…until she receives word that her sister, Hannah, has been killed.  With the help of Deputy Sherriff Paul Gleason, they start to uncover details of Hannah’s death that are ominously similar to her parents’ murder.  As they get closer to the truth, the more danger both they and Hannah’s 10-year old daughter are in.

I was given Deadly Echoes in exchange for my honest review.  It is a phenomenal read.  Mehl expertly crafts each character with precision and finesse.  I do not recommend it be read as a stand-alone, as there are too many references to the storylines and characters from Book One (so definitely read Gathering Shadows if you haven’t already.)  Deadly Echoes is chock-full of mystery, suspense, romance – and even a lovely reminder along the way about loving yourself as God loves you.  Deadly Echoes is a real page-turner and a gripping read – be prepared to lose some sleep as you read late into the night!
