A Gift of Faith: An Amish Christmas Story by Sarah Price

gift of faith picJonas King, a well-respected Bishop, is struggling to overcome his beloved wife Barbara’s death. Their buggy was hit by a car one night and Barbara did not make it. Jonas gives up preaching and becomes closed off from his family. Let’s just say he becomes a wee bit grumpy. Grief can harden hearts, question one’s faith and fill a person full of guilt. Of all these hardships Jonas deals with, his faith is what is tested the most.  I think when someone is taken from you so senselessly it is very hard to find closure. Jonas being racked with guilt is understandable. He wonders what he could have done different not realizing it was simply her time. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and I am sure being a Bishop would make it doubly hard. Jonas knows what he has preached over the years, but he just can’t seem to forgive and forget. Sarah does a great job of making the reader feel connected to Jonas and you really feel the pain he is going through. A Gift of Faith sure packs an emotional punch that I was not expecting and overall it is the perfect Christmastime book to cuddle up by the fire with a warm cup of hot chocolate. Remember…..even the smallest amount of faith can eventually grow into the most wonderful miracle…….
