Sense and Sensibility Review by Susan Scott Ferrell

Sense and Sensibility – Sold!

sense and sensibilitySarah Price has been making her mark in the Amish genre over the last couple of years. Her Amish Classic series has put her in a whole ‘nother realm. As a Jane Austen fan, I was leery to see someone even attempt to put their own twist on what I consider perfection. And yet, Price has consistently delivered. When I received my copy of Sense and Sensibility; however, my old doubts returned. After all, the name was exactly the same and Sense and Sensibility is my absolute favorite of Austen’s works. Could Price do it? Could she really pull off turning a classic into another classic…in an Amish setting…and still make this reader a believer? Yes! Yes! Yes! I’m sold! Sarah Price has done it again!

Sense and Sensibility follows the lives of the Detweiler sisters. Eleanor, the eldest, is true, faithful, steadfast and loyal to the end. Mary Ann is spirited, carefree and careless. Both have put their hearts on the line – Eleanor does it secretly; Mary Ann shouts it from the mountain tops. Heartbreak, confusion…and perhaps even true love…await them both. But to whom? And at what price?

I was given Sense and Sensibility in exchange for my honest review. I found it to be a delightful read. I was curious to see how Sarah Price was going to flip this into an Amish novel. If you think you already know the storyline and every twist and turn, guess again! Price expertly wove Biblical truths throughout the text – something lacking <gasp!> from Austen’s original work! I was amazed that I found myself flipping through the pages as if I had never read Sense and Sensibility before. Brilliantly executed, Sarah Price!

Susan Ferrell and her husband make their home in the Atlanta Metro area. Although Susan struggles with chronic migraine headaches, she stays very busy as a stay-at-home mom to one very precocious little girl.
