A Dream of Home – Classic Clipston ~ Review by Susan Scott Ferrell

After reading all of Amy Clipston’s Amish fiction (including the first two in her Hearts of the Lancaster Grand Hotel series), I had little doubt that I would come away disappointed with her third installment, A Dream of Home. But sometimes authors can surprise you – leave you wanting, or wondering, or just have an “off” book. Not so with Clipston. She delivers, yet again, with another stellar novel in Paradise – Pennsylvania, that is.

A Dream of Home follows the lives of Madeleine, a former Air Force flight nurse who has sought refuge in Paradise after the death of her pilot fiancé. She’s working as a maid a the Lancaster Grand Hotel and lives across the lane from Saul Beiler. Saul and his 11-year-old daughter live alone in their quiet abode. Saul’s wife abandoned their family when Emma was very young, to marry another man. But Emma doesn’t know that. In the meantime, Madeleine and Emma start to form a bond, which challenges cultural norms…especially when Saul and Madeleine start to become attracted to one another!

What will they do?

I was given A Dream of Home in exchange for my honest review, and I thought it was wonderful – classic Clipston! The characters were well thought-out and engaging. I do not think this can be read as a stand-alone, as there are too many sub-plots referenced from the first two books (so get reading!) Oh, and while you are at it, go ahead and get Book Four (A Simple Prayer) – this is a cliff hanger! Such a fantastic read!

Susan Ferrell and her husband make their home in the Atlanta Metro area. Although Susan struggles with chronic migraine headaches, she stays very busy as a stay-at-home mom to one very precocious little girl. While catching her breath, she feeds her Amishaholic tendencies by reading vast amounts of Amish literature!
