Plain Fear: Forsaken

Plain Fear: Forsaken is Leanna Ellis’s first Amish book and I should say she has entered this genre with a bang! Or should I say bite? Set in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Forsaken follows Hannah Schmidt who cannot let go of her grief over losing her true love Jacob to death. Hannah feels lost and alone. Desperate to feel any connection to Jacob she frequents his grave late at night. Levi Fisher, who is Jacob’s brother, watches over Hannah and loves her unconditionally. He is waiting for Hannah to overcome her grief and realize he is the perfect partner for her. When a stranger by the name of Akiva enters the picture, Hannah is immediately drawn to him. Akiva has many secrets, but Hannah cannot stop herself from wanting to be with this mysterious stranger. Meanwhile, Roc Girouard is on the hunt for a killer. His quest brings him to Lancaster County from New Orleans. He is determined to find the connection between the Amish and the killer. He initially blows off theories that the killer is a vampire because that stuff only happens in the movies, right? Can it be true, really? A vampire? These characters come together each flawed in their own way, each looking for answers, and not sure what to do when they find the truth. This book is full of twists and turns that will leave you breathless. The author intricately weaves in poems that flow beautifully with the story. Forsaken is not your conventional Amish book. Some parts will make you blush! I think the message is clear whether Amish or not everyone has been tested in their faith and in the end only you can decide your fate. I enjoyed this book very much but be warned there is violence and some curse words. A sequel is in the works and I am looking forward to it. Happy Reading!
